Lincoln was running for presidency during the time, he ended up being the 16th president of the United States. He pretty much held the union together during this war. Lincoln made sure that slaves were free, by passing the Emacipation Proclamation.

A politican who became president of the confederate states during the Civil War. He was an American solider before deciding to be a president. All he wanted was for the southern states to start being loyal to the Union.
Ulysses S. Grant

Ulysses was the most succesful leader of the Union during the Civil War, leading the north to victory over the confederacy. He then became the 18th presient of the United States.
Robert E. Lee

Lee was a confederate general who led the Union into the civil war. He was known for being one of the best commanders there was. The battle at Chancellorsville was one of his greatest victories. Lee is still known in virgina for his great success.n
William Tecumseh Sherman

Sherman was ranked 7th out of other officers. He was a commander of the march of the sea. Sherman was a general of the union army.
